To ask the Secretary of State for National Heritage if he will list the amendments made to the schedule of monuments under the ancient Monuments and Archaeological Areas Act 1979, as amended, in each of the past 10 years, by name and location and with the reason for revision of the scheduled area of each monument.

[holding answer 3 April 1995]: In the mid-1980s there were roughly 12,500 entries in the schedule, representing some 18,000 individual sites. By the end of February 1995, there were 15,346 entries, representing some 22,000 individual sites. The number of amendments to the schedule per year since 1989 is shown in the table. Amendments agreed by the Secretary of State comprise the addition of new monuments, revisions of existing schedule entries, and the deletion of monuments from the schedule.
