To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what was the average level of magistrates court fines for breaches of the Health and Safety at Work, etc. Act 1974 in(a) the agricultural and (b) the non-agricultural sectors in each of the last 10 years. [19812]

[holding answer 24 April 1995]: The average level of fines in the lower courts for breaches of the Health and Safety at Work, etc. Act 1974 and relevant statutory provisions in each of the past six years is shown in the table:
