HC Deb 25 April 1995 vol 258 c482W
29. Mr. Raynsford

To ask the Secretary of State for Education what is the average class size in(a) private schools and (b) schools run by local education authorities for (i) primary schools and (ii) secondary schools in England. [19197]

Mr. Robin Squire

In January 1994 the average sizes of single-teacher classes in primary and secondary schools in England maintained by local education authorities were 26.9 and 21.5 respectively. These figures do not include grant-maintained schools.

Information on class sizes in independent schools is not collected centrally.
