HC Deb 25 April 1995 vol 258 c505W
Mr. Macdonald

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will give the number and location of Coastguard, Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency, Driving Standards Agency, Highways Agency, Marine Safety Agency, Transport Research Laboratory, Vehicle Certification Agency and Vehicle Inspectorate offices closed and the number of jobs lost or transferred as a result of agency work transferring from Scotland to the rest of the United Kingdom over the past five years; and if he will list the number and location of offices opened and jobs gained in Scotland as a result of agency work transferring to Scotland from the rest of the UK over the same period. [20298]

Mr. Norris

No Coastguard, Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency, Driving Standards Agency, Highways Agency, Marine Safety Agency, Transport Research Laboratory, Vehicle Certification Agency and Vehicle Inspectorate offices have been closed or jobs lost or transferred from Scotland as a result of agency work transferring to the rest of the UK over the past five years; and no offices have been opened or jobs gained in Scotland as a result of agency work transferring to Scotland over the same period. Changes in the organisation of the Driving Standards Agency's work led to a reduction of 7.5 posts in the Department's traffic area office in Edinburgh and an increase of five posts in the agency's Newcastle office.
