§ Mr. Peter BottomleyTo ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will estimate the effects of income tax at the rates of 1978 and 1995 on the average nurse's current earnings. [19119]
§ Sir George YoungOn the basis of the level of average earnings for full-time nurses as at April 1994, a single nurse will pay over £22 a week less income tax in 1995–96 than under a 1978–79 indexed tax regime. For the purposes of the calculation, it has been assumed that the nurse has no tax allowances or reliefs except for the basic personal allowance.
