§ 15. Sir John Hunt
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what assessment he has made of the effect the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 will have on the fight against crime; and if he will make a statement. [18369]

§ Mr. Howard
The Act will make a significant contribution to the fight against crime. As the Police Federation has said, it willenhance the stature and ability of the criminal justice system to reduce crime, bring criminals to justice and significantly reduce the fear of crime, thereby improving the quality of life for many members of our society".
As with any major new legislation, the implementation of its provisions will be monitored and evaluated.
