HC Deb 18 April 1995 vol 258 c70W
Mr. Steen

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales, what requirements there are for officials in his Department to introduce a compliance cost assessment for all rules and regulations coming before him and his Ministers; and how many compliance cost assessments have been issued in his Department in the first three months of this year. [19357]

Mr. Redwood

My officials are expected to comply with Government-wide requirements for the preparation and publication of compliance cost assessments for all legislation with an impact on business. No Wales-only legislation affecting business and hence requiring a compliance cost assessment was brought forward in the first three months of this year.

Mr. Steen

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many rules and regulations he repealed in the first three months of 1995; and how many new rules and regulations were introduced in that period by way of statutory instruments, motions or orders. [19373]

Mr. Redwood

Eleven regulations and orders were repealed in the first three months of 1995. In the same period, 78 regulations and orders were introduced, none of which placed a burden on business. Most of them related to NHS trusts, local government, the council tax, education and roads.
