§ Mr. WilshireTo ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will list(a) the total number of punishment beatings recorded since the start of the ceasefires, (b) the numbers attributable to the various paramilitary organisations and (c) the types of injury inflicted.
§ Sir John WheelerBetween 1 September and 5 April, a total of 90 so-called punishment beatings took place of which 33 were attributed to Loyalist and 57 to Republican groups. Some 78 of these have taken place since 13 October 1994.
The question of the type of injury suffered by the victims of these assaults is a medical one.
