Mr. Llew Smith

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what recent representations he has received regarding plans by the Welsh Development Agency to recover derelict land in south Wales. [19322]

Mr. Gwilym Jones

My right hon. Friend received one letter from a member of the public this year about the land reclamation scheme at Rhoose point, South Glamorgan.

Mr. Alan W. Williams

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will list for every financial year since 1988–89 and the plans until 1997–98 for(a) the amount of the Welsh Office grant in aid to the Welsh Development Agency, (b) the amount raised internally by rental and sale of its property, (c) the total revenue received in grants from the European Community and (d) its total budget. [17698]

Mr. Redwood

[holding answer 4 April 1995]: The information requested is set out in the following table:

Mr. Redwood

I have not asked the Welsh Development Agency to assist NK International, but the agency stands ready to help in any way that it can.

Mr. Barry Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales, on what occasions he has visited NK International, Deeside industrial park; and if he will make a statement. [18781]

Mr. Redwood

I have not visited Nu-Kote International.

Mr. Barry Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what is the amount his Department and the Welsh Development Agency have paid in grants since the NK International factory was located on Deeside industrial park; and if he will make a statement. [18784]

Mr. Redwood

A regional development grant of £92,500 was paid to the company in 1991–92. A subsequent offer of regional selective assistance was made to the company in 1992–93, although no RSA payments have been claimed. The Welsh Development Agency has not paid any grants to the company.

Mr. Barry Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many redundancies are proposed at NK International Deeside industrial park; and if he will make a statement. [18782]

Mr. Redwood

Nu-Kote International Ltd. has announced that it proposes to make 140 people redundant at its premises on the Deeside industrial park.

I very much regret these job losses which, I understand, are due to take place by the end of the year. This was, however, a commercial decision for the company.

The local training and enterprise council and the development agencies stand ready to help in any way that they can.
