Ms Ruddock

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security if crisis loans are available, as interim payments, to those claimants who have been refused income support because they have failed the habitual residence test and are now waiting for their appeal to be heard by the Independent Tribunal Service; and what is the latest information on the number of such claimants who go on to win their appeals. [18899]

Mr. Hague

Crisis Loans are available to applicants who are not in receipt of benefit and may be paid to those who fail the habitual residence test. The information requested on the number who succeed at appeal is not available and could be obtained only at disproportionate cost.
