25. Mr. Pickthall

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what information she has about the number and types of diabetes in the United Kingdom and the incidence of coma deaths amongst diabetics who live alone. [17585]

Mr. Sackville

In the United Kingdom, an estimated 1.2 per cent, of the population have clinically diagnosed diabetes, while the number of currently undiagnosed individuals is considered to increase this to 2 per cent, or more. No information is available centrally on the numbers of diabetics who live alone or on the incidence of coma deaths among them.
