To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how many refugees are being housed in temporary accommodation; how many refugee families have been accommodated in one or two rooms; and what proposals he has to end the practice of accommodating refugees in one or two-room units. [19462]

At the end of December 1994, 1,018 asylum-seeker households who had been accepted by local authorities as statutorily homeless were occupying temporary accommodation pending the outcome of their application for asylum. Details of the accommodation occupied are not held centrally.
