Mr. French

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what is the average time taken for the winding up of an occupational pension scheme to be completed. [18552]

The information requested is not available, but it is not uncommon for the process to take at least two years and it can exceptionally take up to 10 years.

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security how many occupational pension schemes are currently involved in a winding up process. [18551]

Mr. Arbuthnot

Information is available only in respect of Inland Revenue tax approved occupational pension schemes with at least two members. As at 3 April 1995, approximately 4,760 occupational pension schemes were in the process of winding up.
