HC Deb 05 April 1995 vol 257 c1178W
Mr. Steen

To ask the Secretary of State for National Heritage what targets he has for withdrawing regulations within his Department. [15550]

Mr. Sproat

[holding answer 27 March 1995]: A reply by my hon. Friend the Under-Secretary of State for Corporate Affairs in response to a similar question from my hon. Friend on 27 March, Official Report, column 473 sets out the targets across government. In my Department, our targets for deregulation include: to complete a review by 1995 of the Tourism (Sleeping Accommodation Price Display) Order 1977 and Hotel Proprietors' Act 1956; to complete a review by 1995, with a view to the abolition by 1996, of the requirements for television dealers both to register as such with the BBC and to hold a valid dealer demonstration licence; to bring forward proposals on media ownership rules; to commence reviews on sports ground safety legislation and the legal deposit arrangements for books published in the UK; and to continue to press its concerns on a number of regulations affecting the tourism industry.
