HC Deb 05 April 1995 vol 257 c1209W
Mr. Martyn Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Health (1) what regulations exist in the NHS on sponsorship by(a) manufacturers of infant formula milk, (b) distributors of infant formula milk and (c) Bounty Services Ltd.; and to what extent these regulations vary between trust and non-trust hospitals; [18399]

(2) if she will list the occurrences in the past 10 years of sponsorship in the NHS by (a) manufacturers of infant formula milk, (b) distributors of infant formula milk and (c) Bounty Services Ltd. [18398]

Mr. Sackville

Advice on commercial sponsorship in the national health service does not distinguish between that provided by the baby milk industry and that provided by other commercial sponsors. No information is available centrally on the sponsorship provided by the baby milk industry to health authorities and trusts.

General advice is contained in "Income Generation: A Guide to Local Initiative", issued under cover of HN(89)9. Advice on commercial sponsorship of posts and of attendance by staff at relevant conferences, courses and other events is contained in HSG(93)5, "Standards of business conduct for NHS staff'. Copies of both documents are available in the Library.
