Mr. Paice

I press training and enterprise councils continually to achieve further improvements in effectiveness and value for money in all the activities that they are contracted to undertake.

Mr. Chidgey

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what is the latest available information on the number of male and female directors of training and enterprise councils; how many are from(a) ethnic minority backgrounds and (b) the private sector; what information he has about which industrial sectors they come from; and how many of the non-private sector directors are from (i) local authorities, (ii) local education authorities, (iii) other educational organisations, (iv) trade unions, (v) voluntary organisations, (vi) ethnic minority organisations, (vii) employers' associations and (viii) others. There are currently 814 male directors and 118 female directors on training and enterprise council boards. There are 79 chairmen and two chairwomen.

I am unable to provide the ethnic minority and industrial sector information as it is not held centrally. However, there are 704 directors from the private sector.

The total number of non-private sector directors is 309, and is broken down in the following table:
