To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what was the date of the departure of the former director of research and development for the national health service in Wales, Mr. Ian Russell; and what factors led to the delay in appointing a successor. [18166]

Mr. Richards

Professor Ian Russell departed from his post as director of the office of research and development NHS Wales on 31 December 1994. The opportunity has been taken to review the future function and setting of the office of research and development. These have now been agreed.
