HC Deb 04 April 1995 vol 257 c1002W
Mr. Morgan

To ask the Secretary of State for National Heritage what consultations he has had with Camelot concerning the impact of the introduction of the national lottery scratch cards on the raising of money for medical research by charities using scratch cards; what review he will undertake of the overall funding of medical research by charitable fund-raising methods analogous to those used by national lottery; and if he will make a statement. [17999]

Mr. Dorrell

[holding answer 3 April 1995]: Camelot Group plc has always intended that the instant win game cards would be introduced as part of its overall promotion of the lottery. This development was included in its application for the licence to run the lottery and is expected to be an important factor in its achievement of the forecasts of revenue for the national lottery development fund which underlay its bid.

Mr. Morgan

To ask the Secretary of State for National Heritage what representations he has received from the Tenovus medical charity concerning compensation for lost medical research income from the operation of the national lottery; if he will make a statement on the compensation procedure available to charities adversely affected by the lottery; and what consultations he has with Oflot and Camelot concerning the impact of the lottery on charitable fund raising. [18037]

Mr. Dorrell

[holding answer 3 April 1995]: During the passage of the National Lottery etc. Bill, the Government undertook to monitor charitable income once the national lottery was established.
