HC Deb 03 April 1995 vol 257 c934W
Mr. Jim Cunningham

To ask the Secretary of State for Health, pursuant to her answer of 13 December 1994,Official Report, columns 615–16, if she will collect information of the savings made since April 1993 by the national health service by transferring the funding of continuing care of elderly people to local authorities. [17508]

Mr. Bowis

Local and health authorities are responsible for agreeing their responsibilities for continuing care. They should agree the information which they need locally to identify and monitor respective financial commitments in this area. Health authorities can transfer funds to local authorities under section 28a of the National Health Service Act 1977 but it is not clear how this would result in savings to the NHS.
