To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many students gained A-level qualification, or GNV2 equivalent, last year, and what percentage that was of the year group normally sitting for this qualification. [17993]

The following table shows the number of students gaining at least one pass at A-level in the 1994 summer examinations and the numbers gaining a vocational qualification at level 2 or above. Individual students may have gained both A-levels and vocational qualifications and so may be counted twice.

There is no information about the number of students taking examinations by year group. The figures in columns 2 and 3 have been expressed in column 4 as a percentage of the number of students of that age in education at school or further education colleges only, in 1993–94.
