HC Deb 03 April 1995 vol 257 cc926-8W
Ms Hodge

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what is her Department's latest estimate of the total level of public expenditure on day care services by local authority area for children under the age of five; and what this sum is per child. [16130]

Mr. Bowis

Information on expenditure per child, by authority, is published in "Key Indicators of Local Authority Social Services", copies of which are available in the Library.

The latest available information on total expenditure by local authorities covering 1992–93 on day care, child minding facilities and playgroups will be placed in the Library. These figures do not give an indication of the true level of services in a particular area as such services have historically developed in different ways in different authorities.
