HC Deb 27 October 1994 vol 248 c793W
Mr. Dowd

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what practical steps he is taking to improve the collection and presentation of data in respect of non-motorised transport modes.

Mr. Norris

The national travel survey is the main source of national data on walking and is a major source of national data on cycling. The survey was conducted five times at irregular intervals between 1965 and 1986, but since 1988 the survey has been expanded to collect data on a continuous basis.

The Department undertakes regular reviews of the need for all types of data but has no plans for further innovations for these modes at present.
