HC Deb 26 October 1994 vol 248 cc605-6W
Mrs. Helen Jackson

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what consideration he has given to issuing building regulations guidelines about water saving devices for new and refurbished buildings, including sprinkler taps and showers.

Mr. Robert B. Jones

The consultation document, "Using Water Wisely" issued in July 1992 outlined various ways of saving water. The Government have considered the responses to that document and propose to issue an action plan shortly. A separate consultation paper will also be issued soon on replacements for the water byelaws which expire in England in 1997. This paper will consider the scope for addressing this issue through building regulations as well as in alternative ways.
