Mr. Llew Smith

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what assistance the trade or atomic energy counsellor at the British embassy in Washington has given British Nuclear Fuels plc in negotiating with the United States Energy Department for the import of radioactive nitric acid from Hanford to Sellafield.

Mr. Goodlad

Contractual negotiations for the proposed import of nitric acid to Sellafield are a matter for the contracting parties, British Nuclear Fuels plc and the United States Department of Energy.
