To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many people with learning disabilities are resident in long-stay hospitals; and if he will list the long-stay learning disability hospitals still operating.

§ Mr. Moss
The number of people with a mental handicap resident in long-stay hospitals in Northern Ireland was 839 at 17 February 1994, including 64 patients in long-stay psychiatric hospitals.
The long-stay mental handicap hospitals which are currently operating are listed below:

Muckamore Abbey

Longstone

Tower Hill

Stradreagh
