HL Deb 26 October 1994 vol 558 cc40-1WA
Lord Gainsford

asked Her Majesty's Government:

When he will announce his decision on the proposed Hadrian's Wall Path national trail.

The Minister of State, Department of the Environment (Viscount Ullswater)

The Secretary of State has today decided to approve the Countryside Commission's report in respect of the Hadrian's Wall Path National Trail, with a modification to the route as submitted by the commission.

In reaching this decision, careful consideration has been given to all the views expressed, including from those directly affected by the route and those concerned at its impact on the archaeology of the wall. The Secretary of State is satisfied that the commission, in conjunction with English Heritage, has taken full account of the implications of establishing the path alongside this World Heritage Site.
