HC Deb 26 October 1994 vol 248 c728W
Dr. Strang

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what was the total number of reported cases of salmonellosis in Scotland in each year since 1979; and what is the latest available figure for this year.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

The total numbers of cases of salmonella infection reported by laboratories to the Scottish centre for infection and environmental health are as follows. These figures do not necessarily reflect the total incidence of the infection in the community, since doctors do not routinely send specimens from every case for laboratory confirmation.

1980 1,577
1981 2,526
1982 2,621
