§ Mr. Llew SmithTo ask the President of the Board of Trade what contribution his Department is making to the International Atomic Energy Agency's DECADES project on the comparative assessment of the environmental aspects, economic competitiveness and technical reliability of different electricity generating systems.
§ Mr. Ian TaylorThe DECADES project, part of the global response to energy and environmental concerns that arose in the 1990s, is being carried out by the IAEA and eight other organisations and works on databases and methodologies for comparative assessment of different energy sources for electricity.
Results are scheduled for presentation in September 1995 at an international symposium in Vienna on electricity, health and the environment.
The International Atomic Energy Agency share of the project is mainly funded from the regular budget to which the United kingdom contributes its share in full, as we do also with the other organisations involved in the project. It would be uneconomic to enumerate the exact contribution attributable to the Uuited Kingdom amongst the nine organisations involved. The DTI has also co-ordinated the attendance of experts from industry and government from the United Kingdom at meetings being held in the framework of the project.
§ Mr. Llew SmithTo ask the President of the Board of Trade what is the capacity of each of the coal-fired power stations privatised under National Power and PowerGen.
§ Mr. Charles WardleThe capacity of each of National Power's and PowerGen's coal-fired stations at privatisation is set out on pages 96 and 168 of the prospectus, published on 22 February 1991, setting out the Government's offer for sale of National Power and PowerGen shares. I am arranging for a copy of the prospectus to be made available in the Library of the House.
