HC Deb 26 October 1994 vol 248 c621W
Mr. Harvey

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what is his policy towards planting cider apple trees in set-aside areas.

Mr. Jack

The rules of the Community's arable area payments scheme do not permit the growing of food crops on land set aside under the scheme. Cider apple trees are viewed as a food crop. Crops for non-food use, such as biofuels, are allowed to be grown on set-aside land.
