HC Deb 24 October 1994 vol 248 c427W
Mr. Harry Greenway

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security how many pensioners are estimated to have no income other than the statutory retirement pension; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Arbuthnot

Information is not available on the number of pensioners whose sole income is retirement pension. An estimated 92 per cent. of pensioner couples* and 81 per cent of single pensioners receive income on top of state benefits. * Pensioner couples are those where the husband is over 65.
