The Home Secretary has asked me to reply to your recent Question asking how many people have been received into prison for fine defaults in 1994 to the latest available date.Provisional information for January to August 1994 shows that 13,619 persons (12,688 males and 931 females) were received into Prison Service establishments for fine default.
