World Summit for Children

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what steps Her Majesty's Government are taking to ensure that the targets agreed by the 1990 world summit for children will be met by 2000.

The United Kingdom published in July 1992 Command Paper No. 1984 entitled "Report on the United Kingdom Implementation of the Goals agreed by the World Summit for Children". A copy was placed in the Library of the House.

The report on the implementation of the world summit's goals noted a parallel initiative in the UN convention on the rights of the child, to which the United Kingdom Government have agreed to be bound. A report on the application of the convention to the United Kingdom was published in February 1994. A copy was placed in the Library of the House.
