HL Deb 18 October 1994 vol 558 c5WA
Lord Molloy

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What consultation is being undertaken with local authorities concerning the dumping of radioactive waste on local authority disposal sites.

The Minister of State, Department of the Environment (Viscount Ullswater)

The Government's consultation paperReview of Radioactive Waste management Policy: Preliminary Conclusions, published on 5 August, is a wide-ranging overview of radioactive waste management policy, one section of which looks at the possibility of encouraging waste producers to make greater use of controlled burial in landfill disposal sites. The consultation paper was sent to all local authorities in the United Kingdom, and responses requested by 14 October. A statement of future policy will be made in due course in the light of the responses received.
