§ Mr. LangThe inquiry into police responsibilities and rewards, which reported in June 1993, included rank structure within its terms of reference. The Scottish Office contributed £97,000 to the cost of the inquiry. The force structure of the Scottish police service was considered as200W part of the consultation exercise which invited views on the future shape of local government. The service is also under continual review by H. M. inspectorate of constabulary.
