HL Deb 12 October 1994 vol 557 c115WA
Lord Molloy

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they are satisfied with the treatment during transit of horses exported live to other countries in the European Union.

The Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (Earl Howe)

Horses and ponies are only exported from the United Kingdom for breeding, riding (including racing and polo) and exhibition. Their welfare is safeguarded by the provisions of the EC directive on the protection of animals during transport. The Government has no evidence of failure to comply with the directive.
