HL Deb 10 October 1994 vol 557 c102WA
Lord Finsberg

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Which countries in the European Union have legislation permitting organ donation unless the citizen has registered an objection to such a process, and whether her Majesty's Government will introduce legislation along those lines.

Baroness Cumberlege

Other countries within the European Union that have legislation permitting the retrieval of organs for transplantation unless the citizen has registered an objection to such a process are: Belgium, France, Greece, Italy, Portugal and Spain. In Greece, Italy and Spain the system, although permitted by law, is not practised.

The Government have no plans to introduce such a system of organ donation.
