HL Deb 10 October 1994 vol 557 cc101-2WA
Lord Thurlow

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Where are the 80,000 places in the community that have replaced long-stay psychiatric hospital beds, given that the Yates Report in October 1993 identified about 25,000 such places in residential homes.

Baroness Cumberlege

In 1991–92 there were some 22,000 places in local authority, voluntary and private sector homes. There were 29,000 National Health Service main hospital beds and some 33,000 private and other NHS beds.
