Mr. Spellar

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how many short stay visas were issued last year; and what were the figures for the 10 main countries of origin.

In 1993, 609,297 single entry visit visas, and 12,230 short term multiple entry visas, valid for six months, were issued to people seeking to make visits of six months or less.

The top countries where these visas were issued—not all were to nationals of the country concerned—were as follows:
