Mr. William O'BrienTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make a statement on the provisions of training and health and safety practices for people working in the private security service.
§ Mr. MacleanThe Government believe that training is essentially a matter for the private security industry and its customers. We welcome the industry's efforts to develop and raise standards in this area. The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 applies to those employed by private security companies as it does to other employees in the workplace.
Mr. William O'BrienTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he intends to introduce regulations to ensure a minimum standard of conduct for private security operators; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. MacleanWe have no plans to do so.
