To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many hip replacement operations have been carried out in each year from 1983 to 1993 in England, Wales and Scotland.

Information for England for the years 1983 to 1991–92, the latest available, is shown in the table. Data for the year 1987–88 are not available. Figures for Scotland and Wales are matters for my right hon. Friends the Secretaries of State for Scotland and for Wales.
