Mr. Harris

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, when he expects the Government to publish their detailed response to the report of Lord Donaldson's inquiry into the prevention of marine pollution from merchant shipping.

Mr. Norris

Work is well advanced in taking forward the report's recommendations and in preparing a response. We believe that it makes sense to delay publication to take account of current developments in the European Community and in the International Maritime Organisation. As a consequence, we now hope to publish the response in the new year.
