HC Deb 24 November 1994 vol 250 cc317-8W
Mr. Hanson

To ask the Secretary of State for Health (1) how many people over 60 years were recorded in the United Kingdom for each of the last 10 years as having Alzheimer's disease;

(2) how many people over 60 years in the United Kingdom were recorded for each of the last 10 years as suffering from senile dementia.

Mr. Bowis

It is estimated that some 5 per cent. of the population aged 65 and over suffer from dementia. Of these it is estimated that over half suffer from Alzheimer's disease. There is no evidence to suggest that the incidence of Alzheimer's disease has changed significantly over the last 10 years.
