To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what plans he has to introduce legislation or produce the draft of a Bill for introduction by a private Member covering the registration of architects.

I hope that appropriate legislation can be introduced at an early opportunity. My noble Friend, the Minister for Construction and Planning, wrote to the chairman of the Architects Registration Council of the United Kingdom on 21 November setting out our proposals for reform of the Architects Registration Acts. A copy of his letter has been placed in the library.
