To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the average cost to his Department of answering(a) a written and (b) an oral parliamentary question.

§ Mr. Nelson
The average cost, across all Departments, of preparing an answer was assessed as £97 for a written question and £225 for an oral question in November 1993. Up-to-date costings should be available shortly.
