HL Deb 02 November 1994 vol 558 c70WA
Lord Monkswell

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What powers have been granted by Parliament to immigration officers; and by what Acts and statutory instruments such powers have been granted.

Baroness Blatch

The powers granted to immigration officers, including those to examine persons arriving in the United Kingdom, to require the production of documents, to carry out searches, and to give or refuse leave to enter, are set out in the Immigration Act 1971 (as amended).

Immigration officers are also examining officers within the meaning of Schedule V of the Prevention of Terrorism Order (Supplemental Temporary Provisions) Order 1989.
