Mr. Peter Bottomley

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the cost of a week in(a) Her Majesty's prison Holloway and (b) a bail hostel.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

The net operating cost per place per week at Her Majesty's prison Holloway in the financial year 1993–94 was £554. The average cost of a place in a bail hostel in that year was £221 per week.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many(a) convicted and (b) remand prisoners there were in Her Majesty's prison Holloway in each of the past 24 months.
