§ Mr. Barry FieldTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what support the United Kingdom has given the Windward Islands over the export of bananas to the EC.
§ Mr. David DavisThe United Kingdom strongly supports the European Community banana regulation, which offers Windward Islands producers preferential access to the single market. We have support a special Community aid scheme for African, Caribbean and Pacific banana-producing states. We have also given bilateral and regional assistance to the Windward Islands banana industry. We provided emergency assistance in the wake of tropical storm Debbie and are supporting special EC measures to protect the Windwards' marketing structure.
