How many police officers were deployed in or near the Palace of Westminster on Wednesday 19th October, between 2pm and midnight; how many persons were charged and with what offences; how many missiles and firecrackers were used; whether damage was caused to vehicles or buildings; and how many persons were injured.
§ The Minister of State, Home Office (Baroness Blatch)The Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police has provided the following information. On 19th October, 2,106 police officers were deployed in relation to a meeting and rally. Most of these officers were deployed from 5pm. Thirty-six people were charged (six for being drunk and disorderly, 23 for public order offences, one for obstruction and six for assaulting an officer). A number of missiles and fireworks were thrown at the police, although it is not known how many. Some damage was caused to vehicles and property. Six officers, seven demonstrators, a press photographer and a Member of Parliament were injured. In addition a police horse was struck by a metal object and required emergency veterinary treatment.
