Members of the public performing jury service are subject to the same regulations in respect of allowances for expenses, whether unemployed or in emloyment. These regulations came into operation on 1 January 1979. Additionally, in April 1988 the Department of Social Security introduced a system to ensure that unemployed people on jury service could maintain a full national insurance contribution record in the same way as those in employment.
