HC Deb 26 May 1994 vol 244 c293W
Mr. Soley

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what assessment he has made of the working of the Fair Employment (Northern Ireland) Act 1989.

Mr. Tim Smith

Since the coming into operation of Fair Employment (Northern Ireland) Act 1989, my predecessors and I have regularly met the chairman of the Fair Employment Commission to assess the implementa-tion of the Act.

In addition, officials meet formally with the chief executive of the FEC every three months to review the full range of work being carried out by the Commission.

I am satisfied with the way the Act has been operating and am encouraged by the progress that has been made to date.
